Using e-hallpass and FlexTime Manager in Professional Portfolios

Many districts require educators to develop and maintain portfolios to document meeting their professional development goals. Educators can also use a well-crafted portfolio to apply for new positions. Educators that use e-hallpass and/or FlexTime Manager can demonstrate various professional objectives by showcasing their use of technology in the classroom.

There are several popular evaluation criteria. Here we’ll examine how e-hallpass and FlexTime Manager can help educators meet two methods of evaluation criteria for their professional portoflios.

The Danielson Method

The Danielson Method focuses on 4 key domains with separate objectives for each Domain.   Here is a chart that shows which domains and objectives can be met with using e-hallpass and/or FlexTime Manager.

Domain 2:  The Classroom Environment
2c.  Managing Classroom Procedures
2d.  Managing Student Behavior
Domain 1: Planning and Preparation
1b. Demonstrating Knowledge of Students
1e. Designing Coherent Instruction
Domain 4: Professional Responsibilities
4b. Maintaining Accurate Records
4c. Communicating with Families
Domain 3: Instruction
3a. Communicating with Students
3c. Engaging Students in Learning
3e. Demonstrating Flexibility and Responsiveness
Domain 4: Professional Responsibilities
4a. Reflecting on Teaching
4b. Maintaining Accurate Records

The Marzano Instructional Framework

The Marzano framework for evaluation focuses on teachers answering key questions to assess their proficiency.  Here is a breakdown of which questions can be answered by using e-hallpass and/or FlexTime Manager.

• What will I do to establish or maintain classroom rules and procedures?
• What will I do to recognize and acknowledge adherence and lack of adherence to classroom rules and procedures?
• What will I do to establish and communicate learning goals, track student progress and celebrate success?
• What will I do to help students effectively interact with new knowledge?
• What will I do to help students practice and deepen their understanding of new knowledge?
• What will I do to help students generate and test hypotheses about new knowledge?
• What will I do to engage students?
• What will I do to establish and maintain effective relationships with students?
• What will I do to communicate high expectations for all students?

Whether your district uses these or other evaluation criteria such as PAETP, teachers can document classroom management, differentiation, as well as other school-specific goals and objectives.  If you are preparing a portfolio for your next interview, incorporating your use of e-hallpass and/or FlexTime Manager is sure to impress future supervisors with your willingness to learn and incorporate new technology for not only your students’ safety, but their academic growth as well.
